Blue Karakusa Kimono

Regular price €65.00 Sale

A deep blue vintage silk kimono with single karakusa motifs and a lovely snow-storm effect created by roketsuzome a wax-resist type dyeing technique similar to batik.

The kimono has a white silk lining and blue bokashi (ombre) silk hakkake (the inner cuff and hem of the lining) and is in excellent condition. Karakusa (literally 'a foreign or winding plant') is an ancient arabesque pattern brought to Japan from the middle east and is comprised of spirals influenced by vines and other natural forms.

Komon, literally ko (small) mon (pattern) are casual kimono worn for going out or casual gatherings that often have a small all-over print, but may also have stripes, checks or larger all over patterns.
