A vintage unused silk kimono with a komon print of stylized wild waves.
This lovely kimono a sophisticated modern wave pattern in light green on a pale lemon background. Water and especially waves are a common motif in Japanese textile design. This komon design of closely drawn swirling lines suggests the wild waves of the sea (araumi) which are used to represent power and resilience.
The kimono has a white silk lining with a soft blue-green silk hakkake (the inner cuff and hem of the lining).
Komon, literally ko (small) mon (pattern) are casual kimono worn for going out or casual gatherings that often have a small all-over print, but may also have stripes, checks or larger all over patterns.
