A very striking kimono with a modern graphic swirling wave pattern in red on a black background. Water and especially waves are a common motif in Japanese textile design. Thiskomondesign of closely drawn swirling lines suggests the wild waves of the sea (araumi) which are used to represent power and resilience.
The kimono has a cream silk lining with a purple silk hakkake (the inner cuff and hem of the lining).
Komon, literally ko (small) mon (pattern) are casual kimono worn for going out or casual gatherings that often have a small all-over print, but may also have stripes, checks or larger all over patterns.
