Kikko & Phoenix Brocade Wallet

An antique (C. 1950) Japanese brocade wallet with an elegant hexagonal tiled dove grey & gold design. Large enough to hold tissues, a face mask or other small items.

A slim wallet covered with brocade silk (kinran) with a woven kikko design that features phoenix and paulownia flower motifs. The brocade pattern is arranged slightly differently on each wallet. This bag has a plain purple interior and is fastened with a simple flat plastic toggle. This is an unused, deadstock item originally made to hold prayer beads.

The kikkō pattern comes from the hexagonal pattern on a tortoiseshell and is considered auspicious, symbolizing longevity and good fortune.
