An vintage mens silkhaoriwith a gorgeous printed hatsuyume design signed by the artist on the silk lining.
A fine, lustrous navy blue oshima tsumugi silk with woven kikko design and hand-braided silk himo ties that hook on either side. The kikkō pattern comes from the hexagonal pattern on a tortoiseshell and is considered auspicious, symbolizing longevity and good fortune.
The haori is lined in pale blue-green heavy silk satin & the back has a striking image of Mt Fuji against a deep turquoise sky. The design is embellished with metallic gold with two hawks feathers and three embellished gourd designs at the foot.
This vintage piece has some image transfer (see photograph) which is as a result of long term folded storage, but overall it is in excellent condition and suitable for wearing.
Tsumugiwas originally a peasant cloth made from left-over silk threads, but because of its artisanal nature it is now one of the most highly prized and expensive kimono fabrics.
