Crimson Pines Shibori

Vintage silk kimono jacket (haori) featuring a stylized pine tree design created with the traditional Japanese craft of shibori, an intricate form of tie-dye. Shibori is made by binding tiny sections of light-weight silk with thread to produce the design before dyeing.

The pine tree motifs decorate the front & back of the haori, on the front & back of the right sleeve and the back of the left sleeve in dark cerise red on a white silk rinzu background. The pine or matsu is a symbol of longevity & one of the ‘three friends of winter’.

The haori has a dark cream silk lining over printed with traditional flowers in pale orange with white detailing. The haori ties with white & cerise hand-braided silk himo. Learn more about the art of shibori here
