A lustrous deep rose pink antique meisen silk with a small all over white & turquoise woven kasuri cross pattern.
Meisen kimono were the ‘fast fashion’ of their time! This hard-wearing fabric was patterned using a simplified a simplified kasuri method. During the 1920s & ‘30s the bold, colourful meisen designs inspired by modernist art were very popular among fashionable, urban, middle-class women. Advertisements featuring famous actresses were used to promote meisen kimono, which were sold in enormous numbers by the big department stores. Learn more about meisen here.
This pre-loved antique piece has a slight spots and blemishes which is part of its antique nature, but overall it is in excellent condition and suitable for wearing by those who can appreciate its antique nature. The main lining is a poppy red silk, apricot hakkake (the inner cuff and hem of the lining). The inside edge of the hem and sleeve edges have been finished with a soft yellow damask ribbon.
