Waves Shibori

A kimono jacket (haori) with a traditional seighaia (wave) pattern created in an all-over shibori design in maroon & mint green on a white silk background. 

Water and especially waves are a common motif in Japanese textile design. This design suggests the waves of the sea which are used to represent power and resilience.The haori has an off-white rinzu (damask) lining with woven floral design and off-white silk ties. 

Shibori is a traditional manual resist dyeing technique in which tiny sections of light-weight silk are bound with thread to produce the design before dyeing. Learn more about the art of shibori here
